Another Diego Rivera inspired piece. My dad use to rent this spot in Bellflower which had a Diego print hanging by the front door. He didn’t have a playstation 2 so when I’d get bored I would stare at this print. Fastforward to my last trip to CDMX I was walking through this market called Lagunita and spotted this Rivera Book on the floor of a stall. It was an instant comp, made my wife carry it for me while we toured the market and enjoyed ourself in Tepito. This drawing is essentially a study of his iconic tulip depiction. I love the way he renders objects, he doesn’t over complicate things so the figures can be recognized from a distance. I really love that about his work and wanted to steal some of these principles and inject them into my own work.
