Classic depiction of laugh now, cry later theater mask with Japanese inspiration. Have been a fan of chicano art and symbolism for most of life. I grew up in Southern California and would see this design all around me growing up. Whether it was clothing, stickers at the liquor store, painted on cars or as gif on a classmates myspace. I wanted to combine my love for this design and my admiration for Japanese folklore. My family and I LOVE SUSHI and these masks would decorate the spaces where we would have dinner.
