A Flaming Sacred Heart I drew with a clouded background. This image is commonly used in tattoo culture as well as religious arts. The heart represents divine love, healing, and gratitude. One morning, I accompanied my wife to visit her parents. Her mom was watching a YouTube video on the television of an artisan creating these out of aluminum in Oaxaca. In my tattoo era, I too drew these as flash and put them on people's bodies. I remember once this chick told me she loved the heart and eye but to take out the cross. In the moment, I obliged, but to this day, I feel deep regret. A big reason I do not tattoo is because when it comes to my art, I don’t want to take requests. I hate putting myself in the position of jeopardizing my artistic integrity to satisfy a customer. I already do that at my day job, why should I have to sacrifice it with my gift?
